You’re probably safe from Zika—for now

So far, blood banks that have started testing for contamination for the Zika virus have designated the U.S. as “in the clear.” Of about 800,000 blood donations tested in the past six months, only 40 were positive for the virus. Go us!

Crisis and suicide prevention hotlines experience post-election upwelling

John Draper, who’s spent about 25 years working for suicide prevention and crisis intervention organizations, reported a spike in calls between the hours of 1 and 2 a.m. the morning after Election Day—660 calls, to be exact. This is similar to what the field experienced after the 9/11 attacks in 2001. And the calls keep coming.

Turns out exercise has monetary benefits for Colorado, in addition to health

The state received a record $1.6 billion in economic contributions from biking and walking since investing heavily in trails. Biking equipment alone contributed another $185 million, while regular walking for exercise generates $2.7 billion in health benefits per year.
