Ian Scheuermann was found not guilty in the stabbing death of Sean Hudson, Boulder’s police chief explains the campus stairwell shooting of machete-wielding Brandon Simmons, and the bones of Ervin Mettler are identified by the coroner.
A Boulder County jury found University of Colorado student Ian Scheuermann, 23, not guilty on Oct. 21 in the stabbing death of fellow student Sean Hudson. Prosecutors also failed to prove assault and felony menacing charges in connection with the Dec. 16, 2015, fight at the Sundown Saloon in Boulder.
Boulder police Chief Greg Testa spoke to the City Council on Oct. 18 and discussed the fatal confrontation with machete-wielding Brandon Simmons earlier this month. Testa described Simmons’ movements towards two officers in a stairwell, resulting in both officers firing at Simmons — who died on the scene.
The Boulder County Coroner identified skeletal remains found in two locations last summer near the Eldora Mountain Resort as those of Ervin Mettler of Denver. The Coroner’s Office will request assistance from an anthropologist to help determine how Mettler died.
