This weekend, explore a number of promising educational and inspirational artistic events in and around Boulder.
Experience what happens when electronics and performance combine. AutumnLEAF 2016 starts Friday and goes through Saturday at the Center for Musical Arts in Lafayette. This Friday at 7:00 p.m. enjoy performances that showcase various approaches to using electronic media in a live performance context. Onyx Ashanti (Detroit/Berlin), SueC (Portland), Dan Wilcox (Denver), and Normal Ones (Boulder) will perform. On Saturday, join artists for talks about their creative process and the tools they employ. Stick around for short films.
The celebration of the History of the Visual Arts in Boulder continues with three opening receptions under one roof and artist’s talks this Friday at 5:00 p.m. 23 artists who lived and worked in Boulder exhibit beside a curation of the “Criss-Cross Collective”, a 1970s artist’s cooperative, and “The Front Range Women in the Visual Arts Founders”, guest curated by Fran Metzger, which presents the art of those who worked to remove gender-based barriers in Boulder.
If that’s not enough art for you, head down to Denver on Saturday to check out the Leon Gallery. “The Teeth in Your Skull” is the third solo exhibition for Colorado native, Jared David Paul Anderson. His monochromatic works, which incorporate “shamanistic gestures” and “irreverent humor” are worth the drive.
